The Last Tea Party

`Have some wine,' the March Hare said in an encouraging tone.

Alice looked all round the table, but there was nothing on it but tea.

`I don't see any wine,' she remarked.

`There isn't any,' said the March Hare.

I started The Last Tea Party by locating a picture of The Last Supper. I cut out a layer for the table. Then I started looking for Alice in Wonderland characters to replace the apostles. Alice characters were selected to replace the apostle’s forms and positions. Please compare to the original version to see the care that went into selecting the character images.

I chose a Mad Hatter that was a traditional black and white inking and added my own colors with various paint features as well as smudge, blur, erase and other tools.

Alice was selected next. It wasn’t much later in the process that I realized that she needed legs and found another Alice picture to add.

The Cheshire Cat, Mock Turtle and Griffin came next. The Griffin’s colors and hue was altered extensively. (Nearly every picture’s color and shape were altered to some extent.)

After a wide-ranging search I selected a March Hare and Dormouse suitable for the picture. Both were darkened greatly and the March Hare’s head had to be reversed on his body so that it would be facing the same direction. His arm had to be resting on the table (to imitate Judas) so became its own layer.

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum were added next, their colors deepened, and the same was done for Humpty Dumpty next. On the other side the Queen of Hearts was added and adjusted, followed by the King of Hearts and The White Rabbit.

I then erased the apostles from the background image, and replaced empty spots with pattern and clone stamps and smudge, often in places that wouldn’t be seen because they were covered by the Alice characters. Walls, windows, the table and the floor all had to be fixed.
