AMY: in spring 95 (then seven years old)
(An essay in response to a school writing assignment
to write a paragraph on each of the seasons.)

WINTER

Every time it snows in winter, that is just how
winter celebrates its birthdays. Icicles are
the candles and the snow is its icing. The
ground is the cake.

************************************************

SPRING

Spring is when winter dies and summer is just
a baby. Flowers are children who come with
pretty outfits to have a funeral for winter
and to celebrate the new baby spring.

************************************************

SUMMER

When summer is so hot that just means it is
summer's birthday. The heat is summer's best
friend and they are celebrating together.

************************************************

FALL

Fall is when summer dies and winter is just a
baby. Every fall the leaves get on pretty gowns
and float down to see the baby winter.

MELANIE: In her kindergarten in the spring of 95, then five year old Melanie studied early American history, including Johnny Appleseed. Here is an apple tree she was inspired to draw.

JOEY: Joey (then 3 years old) wanted to draw an apple after hearing about Johnny Appleseed. Here is an apple.
