Pearls Girl with the pearl eyering painting Chemistry and Art is a new course developed by Dr. Lagalante in Spring 2006.  It is for non-science majors designed to fulfill the core curriculum requirements.  The 3 credit lecture presents the chemical advances that have allowed us to understand and appreciate works of art.  Topics include light, color, pigments, frescoes, binders and painting media, metallurgy, jewelry, ceramics, photography, art conservation and art restoration. The 1 credit laboratory includes laboratories on light, color, pigments, frescoes, binders and painting media, metallurgy, jewelry, ceramics, and photography.  The course includes field trips to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia.
